The Brent Hawkes Support Fund is operated entirely by volunteers, has a steering committee, and several subcommittees. Campaign and Nova Scotia Co-Chairs provide overall guidance.

Campaign and nova scotia Co-ChAir Kim vance

Kim Vance is a resident of the Halifax area and the very proud mother of two children. A long- time advocate for women’s rights, Kim also helped found Nova Scotia’s provincial LGBTQ organization, before going on to serve as President of EGALE, Canada’s leading National LGBTQ Rights organization. She was a co-founder and is currently Executive Director of ARC International, an organization that promotes LGBTQ rights internationally.  Kim was awarded the Halifax Pride Community Service Award and the Rev. Darlene Young Community Hero Award

CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIR DOUG ELLIOTT

Doug Elliott is a partner in the Toronto law firm of Cambridge LLP. Doug is an award-winning human rights lawyer, and was the first openly gay man to win the Ontario legal profession’s highest honour. He has played a leading role in the fight for LGBTQ equality both inside and outside the courtroom in Canada, and represented the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto in the successful fight for equal marriage.  

 

Nova scotia co-chair Al McNutt

Al McNutt is a grandfather living in Truro, Nova Scotia. Al is an award-winning gay activist and HIV activist, and the founder of the Northern AIDS Connection Society of Nova Scotia. He is a past President of the Canadian AIDS Society and helped lead the national fight that resulted in a landmark Supreme Court ruling guaranteeing equal CPP pensions for same sex survivors.
